A fucking horrible ending to the month to be honest, and possibly my worst month I can remember. I cant cash in an MTT to save my life at the moment, and while i have never played them a lot, it pisses me off and is obviously affecting the way I am playing elsewhere to try and make up for it.

To put a bit of meat on the bones, I was (only?) $92.50 down from 41 $25 STTs which is most worrying as I was up until a couple of days ago, but they started to chase the overall loss which has obviously affected me as I only cashed 3 times out of 10 (one second and two thirds) yesterday and today. I also bubbled 3 times on the trot, which is galling. You will see the 4th place figure sticks out above - it wasn't so bad until Yorkshire Puddings comment on the blog a few days ago, thanks Pud, your fucking banned!

The monthly loss puts me down overall for the year (up on STTs tho) so where to next? I don't really want to narrow down my game to just 25 buck stts as that would do my head in, but they should be my mainstay i suppose as I am still up in those games this year. Perhaps I will try a month of just playing them, unless of course there is value to be had in an mtt somewhere.

Hello reader, monthly summary time again. What a strange month, I have done the usual on the STTs and turned the regular profit figure but I have had an absolute disaster on the MTTs. The stats don't lie £132.50 up on STTs, but $277.34 down on MTTs, ouchy, $144.84 down overall. Betfair have decided to up the buy in of the 7:10pm 1k gtd which pretty much killed off paying out 9 places and now usually pays just the 5. Previously at between 55 - 70 players paying 9, final tabling was a reasonably regular proposition. Now with only 5 paid, different story. Cheers betfair. That said, it was me playing and not them, so its only me I can really blame. 31 MTTs, only cashed in 5, not good enough.

A short but sucessful poker month March had been. I only got back from Oman on 18 Feb so gave only played online since then. After a bad start, I seem to have turned it round with a few success in MTTs. $10 down on STTs (only played 14), but a decent $271 up from MTTs (from 17 tourneys). So overall, $260.59 up, which I am alos happy to report includes a free $28 bucks from a swapped % from Snap. Comedy poker players that we are have often swapped %s but never actually managed to cash! The bare stats for the month are as follows:

As suspected I was slightly down for the month of Feb, the Poker Tournament Tracker Stats are as follows:

However I was $138.48 down from MTT buy ins, not winning any and only cashing in 13% of games. STT-wise, much better, $77.50 up, in the money around 44% of the time. Total over the two months so far I am still up, although only by $133.90.

Total buy ins were about half of what they were in January, mainly I guess because of going away with work again. This time it was a short 3 week trip to Oman. Weather was nice, the rest was shit, thats all you need to know. On the poker front, I did play 11 STTs with a bunch of crazy septics that were also there - cashing 7 times. Not a bad record, but when you think their favourite hand was "big lick" (6 & 9), you can see why they made my trip easier on the pocket! Decent bunch of lads though, even for spams.

Not much of March left to play and I dont really feel like playing that much at the at the moment, will have a couple of STTs to get me in the mood. ttfn

Hi reader, not going to bother with this blog much this year - unless I get a big win (almost zero chance of that) or qualify for something (about the same chance) I will just be putting up my stats from Poker Tournament Tracker each month with a bit of blurb on how I am doing. I have religiously been keeping it up to date. Here are January stats:

These were mostly STTs (only 22 of the 83 were MTTs) at which I just about ended up level. The profit comes from the MTTs including a win in 105 runner V Points Freeroll which netted 7500 points. These points have a real worth of 1p each and for the sake of acocunting I have converted these to dollars at a rough exchange rate of 2 bucks to the pound. I havent converted all the points yet as I am saving them up towards flight to vegas (86,000 miles at the moment) but I will be topping up the virgin poker account with them over the next couple of months in an attempt to qualify for the virgin poker festival in Newcastle in April.

Also got Betfair Rakeback £14.90 today which is always nice.

A Look Back at the Resolutions for 2007

I thought I might look back almost 12 months to my new years resolutions for 2007 and see how I have done. Admittedly I wasn't expecting a spell in hell for four months which certainly changed my outlook, but that is all over now so wont dwell to much on that.

This is a copy and paste of the resolutions with my take on how it has gone.

Make a profit at poker for the year. Passed, I cant gibe you an exact figure but I have more in my accounts and have withdraw loads. I am going to email betfair for a rundown on my poker activity and will let you know in a separate post later.

Speak my mind a bit more on here and on the Betfair forum. Probably failed but deffo not elsewhere, where I have found now if someone is getting on my tits, they soon know about it.

Lose a bit of weight. Passed, lost about a stone while away, but have put a bit back on since getting home. Must try harder next year.

Qualify for a live event through a satellite. Failed. A big regret but was hampered by going away. Will be high on the list next year.

Get good at Darts. Has to be a fail - although I am "better" I still cannot class myself as good. 26 is still my favourite score.

Update this Blog more often. 39 posts (plus this one so 40 ) in '07. 81 in '06 so a fail.

Have less Poker snacks. While I was here a fail, but wasn't here for a third of the year which helped. A fail overall though.

Keep even more detailed records of my Poker. Fail. Stopped keeping records completely until December so must keep it up from here.

Do less Sports Betting. Well I have spunked a hundred quid on cricket this year and done alright on the footy bets. But I have done more Sports Betting not less, so technically a fail, although made more cash. Must get the right wording next time.

Walk to work more often. While I was here I passed, although again need to review the wording as I got my push bike out. Next year will be tougher cos work is now 2 miles further.

Quality not Quantity Poker. Overall a fail i think, before I went away I may have passed but leading up to going away I was playing like it was going out of fashion, same when I came back for a weeks R&R and then also when I got back for good.

Go to bed earlier. Pass, still had a few late nights, but overall went to bed earlier.

Play more Golf. Big time fail. Only played once. Takes up too much poker time, but will try harder next time.

Cut down portion sizes. Pass, made a concerted effort to eat smaller meals, and mainly managed to do it.

Cut the grass regularly. Pass, although it helped not being here for the majority of the summer as I may well have lost interest

Buy a PS3. Passed and its fucking awesome!

Go to (or at least arrange to go to) Las Vegas. Failed, far to difficult this year. Maybe next as I still have a shitload of Virgin Airmiles.

Be more patient with the kids. Passed I think, mainly due to being/going away. Deffo makes you appreciate the little gits more.

Spend some of my Poker profits on good stuff. Passed, A big telly, Sky+, plus other goodies have all been bought with my ill gotten gains.

Reduce the amount of Poker clients on the laptop from 22. Passed! We are now down to 11, more work to be done, but deffo better.

So 10 Passes and 10 Fails, but am happy that I managed to get some of the important ones passed (PS3 obviously) and some were badly worded so could have been a lot better.

Its been an incredibly interesting year, one which I don't really want to repeat again anytime soon. I start a new job in January which will bring with it new challenges and new travels no doubt and I am really looking forward to it. Next post I think will be my blog review of the year, obviously a shorter one than last year!

Frustrating time on the poker tables at the moment, I have had a couple of finals tables including a 2nd in the $1.5k gtd on betfair for 300 bucks, but I have had soooo many close encounters when I have spunked off a load of chips close to the ft, and flunked it. High on my list of new years resolutions will be more patience.

I think the next post will be my review of the year, and then one of aims and resolutions for 2008.

All back in and settled, still got two weeks off work yet, and then only back in for a couple of weeks before xmas. Happy days.

Poker is going well, last night finished third in one of Betfairs $5 Rebuys for $357 after having final tabled (6th) in a $1.5k gtd, $15 buck entry for around $100. The rebuy game took ages and finished about 3 o'clock this morning so I am well knackered.

I have however managed to pick out my value footy bets for the weekend. As some of the regular readers know I have a certain amount of success picking out teams whose odds look bigger than they should. Here are this weekends picks:

1 Arsenal v Wigan (Backing Arsenal @ 1.19)
2 Rotherham v Shrewsbury (Backing Rotherham @ 2.05)
3 MK Dons v Chesterfield (Backing MK Dons @ 1.87)
4 Macclesfield v Dag and Red (Backing Macclesfield @ 1.87)

I know some will see 1.2 as not exactly value but there is no way on this earth that Arsenal can lose this. Famous last words! Rotherham are at the top of the form charts in League Two against and ordinary Shrewsbury team means I couldnt beleive it when I saw it at 2.05. The other two games consist of god home teams against less good away teams so 1.87 represents a good price for these. I have backed the 4 as singles to varying stakes and also rolled them up as an 8.49 acca. Good luck, get on before the prices crash.

Thoughts Turn to Home

3 Weeks to push. Looking so much to getting back and spending some time with the family (and, ahem, playing some poker).

I have luckily got about three weeks off work when I get back so can combine the two no problems, but I am certainly looking to distil the time playing poker and use the old adage "quality not quantity". Before I came out here and when I was back for a week I definately lost focus and just played for the sake of it because I knew I was going to be without for a while, I still managed a few cashes but also wasted some buys ins when I was not mentally right to play. Once back and settled I am definately going to come up with some sort of plan of action for my play. Cash games do not interest me in the slightest, and I still a mix of STTs and MTTs, so will base it around that. I also need to distil the sites I play on and consoldiate the bankroll. I currently have about 23 accounts up and running (and funded) and need to look to get them down to about 4 or 5 I guess. Betfair, Sun, Pokerstars, Mansion and Full Tilt I think. The first two are the ones I get rakeback on and I enjoy the games on all five. I guess I also need to step up the buy in levels I play at. With a couple of thousand bucks in the accounts I guess playing 10 buck STTs and 2 and 5 buck MTTs is a little below what I should be playing at.

All comments welcome on the above, and any ideas are also welcome.

Beginners Luck

Playing with the lads we have taught to play out here and got it pretty spot on till this happened. 3 players left out of 6. Marginal chip leader, dealt KK on the button, so I raised to 750 (blinds 100/200. SB fold but BB reraises to 1500. He had been playng any ace all night so reraised all in (I him covered by about 800 chips), he insta calls for the game and flips over QsJc. "What the fuck?" "I thought you were bluffing". I did try to explain that in the very small chance that I was bluffing, he still wasn't going to be a massive favourite to win, but he couldnt quite grasp it. Needless to say he flopped the staright draw which hit on the river. I went out shortly after when flopping a straight flush draw, all the chips were in but missed. Ahh well.

A Week at Home

Back for a weeks R&R. Its good to be back in the UK apart from the cold! A bright morning this morning reminds me why I love England, I could almost walk around in shirt sleeves. Once this weeks over I have to go back for about 5 weeks so it wont be too long, thankfully.

I brought my digi camera back and dowloaded a few pics, there are a few more on the PC at work which I will being back, but I like this one, which shows me and Mitch playing extreme poker outside our accomodation late one night. Mitch had to play with a head torch, and me with a little pocket one. Note the quiet player in the third seat at the back.

More IPT Woes

Another $25 tourney, this time a 9 seater, this time out in ninth. After one spin of the table I got KK in mid position, so I raised it up, and was reraised by the button, which was called by the BB. Alllllll Innnnn, button flips over AK and the BB turns over QQ. Q on the flop, A on the turn (to lose the side pot) and its over again. Perhaps I'll wait till i get home.

Played a five player $10 stt. 3 rank amatuers and one experienced player. Me and the other guy who plays managed to work our way through the outdraws to go headsup. Eventually we got them all in with JJ (me) against KQ and its over for the first win on the IPT. +$25 for the night. Running total -$25 tournaments same for cash.

Come on the flashmob. If someone can update Raisetheriver.com that would be handy.

IPT Woes

Played again on Sunday night and lost. Never got going in the tournament game and took some beats in the cash game after building a decent stack quickly. The cash game was Dealers choice, 2, 3 or 4 cards. Managed to lose most of my stack on the Omaha hands when a couple of lads who had played it before decided their two pair was food enough against my flopped straights to catch their Full Houses, same situation twice, both times leaving me low on chips. Will continue to play as there is definite potential in the game. But at the moment its a losing one. So -$25 in the Tourney and -$80 in the Cash. Running total -$50 and -$69. Hmmmmmmmmmmmm.

A Poker Game at Last

Finally found some lads that play poker over here. Went down on Sunday night for a $25 freezeout and then a cash game. Was happy with the way I was playing and trundling along with 4 left (out of 8, only 2 paid), when I got a AA on the button, happy days as they say out here. UTG calls. I raise 3 x bb, SB folds, BB calls, and does the limper. Flop comes Q T 3 rainbow, and its checked to me. Substantial bet from me sees BB call, and original limper fold. Flop comes A of spades, showing two spades. He checks I go all in. He umms and ahhhs for a while then calls for all but a couple of hundred chips, and flips over T2 of spades. Of course I deal myself the spade that I dont want and I am out. Marsalaama Mutherfucker.

I played in a cash game after for a while (.25/.50 blinds), bought in for $60 and left with $71 after an hour or so. Play was average at best and I should have walked away with a bit more but tried to get clever with a muppet and lost about 18 bucks on one hand towards the end.

These guys play regularly and I will mostly be playing as much as I can with them from now on, so could be profitable. I will keep you updated on my progress.

Saturday Headhunters

Rather than take on the tough(er) competition of daytime betfair players I thought I would play a few of the Crypto Headhunter tournaments. I like the format although I am not sure it suits my style of play. I think you have to get a stack early on and then bully opponents by going all in against them - not my style, but lets see how I get on.

1114 Game - £5 - Steady start up a couple of hundred. Dealt AQ, put in a standard raise and get one caller. Flop is A Q 7, two spades - I raise a decent amount caller reraises all in. Now I am thinking if they have AA or QQ then fair enough but more likely AK through to AT and decide its worth the risk. Oppo flips over K4 spades,turn is a blank but the river is a spade and its all over. No Heads

1214 Game - £2 - Good start, two early heads and up to about 4k. Bloody Thunderstorm means I lose the broadband for about 45 minutes. Got back in and had just finished just inside the money, plus the two heads from earlier.

1314 Game - £5 - Also affect by the loss of broadband cos of the thunder, having onlyplayed a couple of hands before losing connection. Got back in with only 800 or so left, waited for a suited ace but no luck. No Heads.

1414 Game - £10 - No good, no hands to speak of for the first 45 mins or so, then managed to get my all in with AK called by QQ. No Heads.

Top Tune

Not much of a music buff but I have just downloaded the Kings of Leon "Fans" and cant get the tune out of my head. Have a listen, top track it is.

Back on the poker after a couple of nights on the piss, and a home game last night. Very tired but have managed tocash in each of the STTs I have played tonight. I am not going to donkof a load this weekend like I did last week.

The spacebar is playing up onmy laptop so if any of my posts look a bit odd (more than usual) the thats why.

Tripled up plus a little bit in the home game which was a laugh, but didnt finish till 2 this morning, so work has been a drag today.

Betfair Bonuses and the Footy Tip of the Week

But not for me. I have been doing okay on STTs and the odd MTT on Betfair turning in a decent profit over the month (+£185 for the month overall), but soon as a bit of value comes around I am unable to get anywhere. Last night was the first of their Multi MTT games where there are 3 MTTs on the go at once, all with $2k to the prize pool. I the left the missis in control for the first hour as I had to pick one of my lads up from footy training. I was still in (just) all three when I got back, but soon busted out one of them while double a couple of times in the other. Lack of patience all round meant that I didnt stick around much longer in either of the other two and I was back to the STT trail to restore the balance to the starting point. They have a similar game on at the moment and as we speak I am doing okay in two of them after busting out one very easy, very early. We shall see. UPDATE, shite again.

As for the footy bet this week its a tricky one, many teams dont have anything to play for and can go either way, playing without fear and not giving a toss. I like to go for teams that still have something to play for (avoiding the drop, get in the play offs) and so Wolves away to Leicester at 2.16 looks like value to me. GET ON.

Weekend Poker and the Usual Value Footy Tip

Already bombed out the $1750gtd on betfair, having laid down QQ pre flop (to be fair there were 3 all ins before me!), I was all proud of myself and thought I had built a clever image at the table. Raise a hand x3 BBs (how else?) holding AT sooted and get one caller, floppage arrives as A 7 3 which looks good, I check (with the intention of check raising to increase the "clever" image further. So t'other fella duly raises, I reraised him to about 450, but bugger me he reraises me all in. I aint having any of the shite, I am the man and call, he flips AJ... Ahhhhhhh, I'm out and look like a numpty instead of a well placed clever player who should be feared. So its $10 STTs mostly for me for the rest of the night/weekend.

Now, regular readers will have noticed I am on a bit of a streak as far as the footy bets are concerned, with some great value tips over the last few weeks. This week is a toughy with a distinct lack of a standout value bet for you. Portsmouth (@3.15 on betfair) may do well at home to Liverpool who have bigger fish to fry. Leeds (1.81) go into a must win game against Ipswich who have nothing to play for, but backing Leeds at any odds these days is a sure fire path to the poorhouse. Into League One and Yeovil (1.77) who are usually good at home are a good bet to consolidate their play off position against an average Donny side who also have nowt to play for, although they aint too bad on the travels, a trip down to the south west is a different proposition. In the basement, Accrington Stanley (2.2, exactly) could be a value bet but both them and Macc Town have it all to play for and the Ince factor, and the fact he may actually lead them ON the field may be a danger.

Sooooooo, I have gone for Bournemouth (2.00) at home to Gillingham as theeee value bet of the weekend. Bournemouth need a result to finally confirm that they will be playing league one footy again next season and welcome back sick note Anderton to add a little class to their midfield. Add to this a poor away performing Gills side with nothing to play for, this stands out as about the only obvious choice of the weekend. Get on early before the price plummets!

The Plan for the weekend goes something like this:

MTT Win, 2nd and more on the STT Challenge

Running Goood at the mo, Won Betfair MTT (90 runners) earlier in the week and last night lost headsup in the MKOP Royal Rumble on Betfair, both paying out $100+, and the MKOP qualifying me for the end of month final. My loss headsup was a blow at the time, but not being a tilter, these things dont affect me too much long term. The last 3 hands played out like this:

Easy chip leader 70k v 30k ish, and check raise t'other bloke all in with top pair, he calls with an up and down str8 draw which hits on the turn. Next hand nothing unusual, then next hand check raise him all in again with top pair (me this time all in), and this time he calls with Ace high which lands on the river. Hey Ho!

So back to the STT challenge for a bit:

On the poker front I have had an up and down a couple of days, won a few stts and a had a couple of winning cash sessions, but I have deffo spotted a leak in my game and it is the cash side of it. If I don't start well, I spiral away in the session and basically play until the buy in has gone, which quite often makes me chase on other tables to make up for it. I reckon I will have to jack in cash games, I have said it often enough but never done it. We will see.

End of the month accounts are done and March was another losing month I'm afraid, but for only £43, which is an improvement on the last couple of months. For the forthcoming month I need to plug the leaks further and turn a profit. I need to focus on the games I am playing, dont play when tired, dont play when time is short, and all will be good.

10 8, preferably not sooted seems to be the hot hand of the moment. Just been busted out of a multi on crapto by this monster of hand beating me TWICE. First hand v my AA and the massive 10 8 hit a fh to put me down to 100 chips. Managed to double up a couple of times to 400 and then got dealt AJ (allegedly snaps favourite hand by the way as it reminds him if his hero), stick em in and am called by errm yes, 10 fecking 8. The straight is made on the river and I am crying all the way to bustsville.

Further my post about how shite tiscali is/was, they have only gone and done me over with a duff MAC so my migration to a new ISP is now stalled. Fookers.

I need a challenge in my (poker) life

Sorry about the lack of updates recently, poor connectivity to the net due to Tiscali and extreme overload at work have led to a lack of poker and even more of a lack of updates to this blog.

Firstly, Tiscali, if anyone is think of ever signing up to this ISP then please do not! I have been a loyal customer for many years and everything was fine and dandy up until about the start of December. All of a sudden i was unable to connect to some poker clients from about 7 until 9:30ish. All web surfing was a normal but no poker (at least not betfair, any of the playtech skins) etc. Apparently they have installed some kind of traffic management on their system which happens to affect some applications. They assured me that they would seek a resolution straight away but nothing was forthcoming. Then during the xmas and new year break everything was back to normal - suggesting that it was a capacity problem. 3 January comes and back to the bad ways again, but since then it has been slightly worse being off from about 5pm until 11 everyday. Now the obvious thing to do would be to change isps, but as I was away with work for a few weeks I couldnt really do this and when I got back Tiscali announced they had fond a solution and all would be sorted within a matter of days, so I hung on for a bit longer. Every time I decided to move isps Tiscali would pronounce on their forums that they expected to sort it all out in the next few day etc. Anyway, enough is enough and I am off, and all should be back to normal very soon. God I sound like tiscali!

On the poker front I have managed 5 final tables so far on gats' thread this month which is rather nice. Most of them have been on betfair but not until either late at night or early morning, so hopefully with a better net connection i can get into some better timed mtt (ie early evening) on betfair.

I have lost some direction to my poker and I really do need some kind of challenge so will be on the look out for one over the next weeks, and I there are any readers left on this blog then please feel free to suggest one.

Right I have played 11 STTs today and cashed in just the 1. I mentioned in my new year blog that I was going to keep more details records, well this has included a short resume of the crucial hands in STTs that either help me (not too many of them) or kill me off. Here are the 11 short comments from todays games:

AK caught by quad 6s early on for half starting stack, waiting for a spot and went with A4 in co, called by KK, no help

Folded JJ to massive pressure early on, they flip over TT and K9 not matching the Q high flop at all. Later, all in with KK called by AQ, A on the river

Going mostly well, down to 4 in 2/3rd hit top pair on KJ8 board all in, called by AJ, 2nd J on the turn

Going well again despite being ss when down to 5, last 4 push on a KJ8 board with J9 called by J4, turn a blank, 4 on the river and I'm done.

Played alright, mostly got to blinds 500/1000 so bit of an all in fest, but happy to cash after 5 without success

V quiet most of the game, eventually all in with AJ sooted, called by KK

Doubled up early. Comfortable late on 3rd in chips, took on 2nd after hitting top pair with no kicker, he flips better kicker - Bad play

OTT all in pre with AK he flips over J9 sooted and hits his flush by the turn. Recovered a bit, then all in with A8 called by T8 by bs

Got short stacked, eventually went all in with AT called by 2 and one of them hit a str8

Always + chips after a good start however one of two shorter stacks with 5 left blinds 200/400 1200 left, me bb other ss on sb goes all in I have A7 so calls, he flips over K8, and an K comes on turn.

FFS! Out on 4th hand, limped with A6 flop comes down A A 8. Lots of mini bets, turn comes down a 6, bingo, I raise, get re raised all in, easy call for me, he flips over A8.

Best I jack it in for the day, now a couple of the plays were bad from me, but some of the outdraws, bad timing and beats have done my head in today.

Forgot to put up the financial report for Dec and for 2006 as a whole, so here you are:

Dec 06, hmmmmmm the worst month since records began by a very long way too. -£272.86 was the figure, not helped by a losing cricket bet of £118, but even if you took this away its still the worst month ever ever ever.

December does have to be balanced off against the rest of the year however, and looking on the bright side I started the year with a bank of £914.36. The final figure was £2057.89 having also withdrawn £490 over the course of the year. Best month by a long way was August with a £700+ boost (December obviously being the worst). Only 3 losing months in the year was also a positive. Happy with last year and positive about this one already and by using my Quality over Quantity adage I have cash (but not won) in 3 out of 4 STTs played so far this year.

Firstly it will show that December has been my worst month since records began, one of the best results I have had was finishing second in a headsup match as part of the betfair forum headsup champs, round one of course. I cant explain it, Snap thinks I sound like a man who doesnt mind losing and half expects too. Well I dont like losing, but when I do it doesnt affect me very much, which could be seen as not caring. Going eight stts without cashing is a problem and it pisses me off but when I start a new game, I dont think of the previous games as to me they dont affect the here and now and there is nothing I can do to change it. Anyway, rant over.

The end of the year will also show that I have, over the course of the last 12 months made a fair few quid and probably only had two losing months, so musnt grumble. Just got to sort out what is happening at the moment and we will all be happy. One thing I do need to sort out is my headsup play cos its frankly shocking if I even manage to get there!

Maybe I should post on here more, as while I have been typing this I have just managed a 2nd in a stt on betfair, so you see I do only blog when I am winning. Shocking headsup play though.

Cricket Tilt

I dont tilt much or very often but I seem to have been severely affected by a (relatively) big loss on the cricket last week.

I had a tenner on the Aussies before the start of the second test, which seemed entirely sensible. However, after England had built up a massive 1st innings score I decided to get out without a loss, by laying the aussies at long odds. Well the rest is history, with a second inning collapse I am now a ton or so down on the event.

Added to this I am unable to cash in a stt to save my life. I have now played 7 $10 stts on betfair and had a couple of 4ths for my troubles. I feel as if I should play to recoup the cricket loss, but the longer the losing streak goes on the worse it is.

It doesnt help when my AT gets beat by A7 to put me out in 4th. But hey, thats poker!

Had some good results on STTs this weekend. Played a few with Snap on Saturday, and we even managed a Flashmob 1, 2 in a STT on Party. Snap won so he is now the captain.

I also managed to win the 10pm Thunder on Crypto tonight, 305 players and 1st paid £155.55 which was nice. Not played many MTTs recently and I was only playing cos I had money sat around doing nothing in my UK Betting Account. Cant get to my winning at the moment cos the account is frozen!

Even though he hasnt link his bloh to this one I must congratulate Shaa on 2nd in the 35k on Betfair, and a cash of $7k. Nice one. I cant imagine how he was feeling as it was getting down to it, I was bricking it when headsup for £150!

Back to work tomorrow, but then off to London on Wednesaday for the Pokerplayer Open at the Loose Cannon poker club, should be fun.

Had a reasonable successful time on the etafir 9 seater stts, and this is where my focus will be this weekend. I dont have a problem with the software (much prefer it to boss for example, and as I am getting 66% rakeback on stts at the moment I would be a fool not to concentrate there. I have also had my usual saturday acca, which will no doubt be dead by half time at the latest tomorrow, but here it is anyway:

500 Games on Betfair

The ajcairns account on betfair is officially 500 STTs old.

The account is the grand total of £154 in profit, which is an average of 31p profit per game. Have a look at the profit/loss graph cut and paste from sharkscope, which has shown a steady rise, with only a couple of blips, the most noteable one when I stepped up a level during the day and couldnt hack it, soon learnt my lesson.

Snap reckons I dont tilt, and he is probably right but I have never really thought about it much. But he got me thinking about it.

Being on tilt means letting your emotions beat your ability to play. Most players go on tilt at some point, so limiting it is essential to winning long term. Poker is a game that requires reason. You also need to know when to fold, especially when you feel a bit tilty. By letting your emotions take control you keep chasing those draws, hoping to catch the card that you need and "hope" you are not beat. You have to stay focused and rational while at the poker table. Mostly you will tilt due to a bad beat or if you just can't seem to win a hand and while it is natural, you need to limit it.

The best way I find if I feel a bit tilty is to sit out a couple of hands and go for a piss or make the missus a cuppa. Not immediately though, but after the next hand, cos getting a monster on the very next hand after a beat is a great way to double back up. Imagine you have just suffered a bit of a beat - and then you get dealt bullets, best thing is a quick go in the chat box "lucky b", "fuckin fish", "grrrrrrr", and then you stick your remaining stack in the middle. You will get calls from all sorts of rag hands, bingo. But only wait for that one hand and if you feel tilting, step awaaaaayy from the pc, and do as advised above.

When you are away from the table, reset your thoughts, change your train of thinking and come back with a neutral perspective of the game you are playing.

Take each game on its merits, each game you play is a seperate entity and is not linked to the previous one, so why let your previous game affect the one you are playing at the moment.

Had a live cash game round the house last night which was good. I'm not a great fan of cash games and much prefer stts and mtts but as there was only four of us we were kind of forced in the the format. Did quite well and was slightly up on the night.

I really should update this more often. I have however been very busy at work, ensuring that the world stays free from tyranny, which let me tell you is not an easy job at all. I have almost been shamed into an updated by the £2 and above thread on the betfair forum, where all the blogs get a mention, but if you aint updated it in the last week your link isnt in bold, the shame of it!

Anyway, on the poker front, my steady rise has continue with a £112.78 profit for Sept 06, which has taken my overall bank over 2.5k. I have promised "she who is to be obeyed" that I will withdraw some and do something useful with it. We shall see. And the cynics amongst you will no doubt be expecting a slump due to a withdrawal on the account.

A Night Out

Went to the Norwich Poker Club last night, in the local metropolis. A fairly seedy joint which consisted of a large mainly empty room with about 7 poker tables and a couple of pool tables and thats about it.

The comp was a £10 rebuy, with two 50 minute levels of rebuys and then a double add on. The table I sat on for the rebuy period was reasonable maniac free, with a decent bunch who were there for a game of cards and not to spend loads on rebuying after a needless all in. Lost an all in with QQ to KK and rebought once, and at the end of the rebuys I was sat with 2675 (1000 starting stack), I took the double add on to take me to 4675, which just a little lower than average on the table.

Soon after the freezeout started, I managed to have a couple of double ups after a few spins of the table, plus had a few shots at the pots to no avail. The I managed to double up with AK holding up against 65 sooted, plus then knocked out two short stacks in one hand to get to about 25k (with about 25 players left, 50 started), which was about 10% of all the chips in the tourney (think it was 256000). This obviously left a couple of seats at the table and one of them (to my immediate left) was filled by a monster stack which was not good news. Even worse was that he was intent on heavily reraising me everytime I was in a pot. I soon got the message and went into the shell for a few spins of the table but by this time the blinds were up to 500/1000 and I was down to 13k. The serial raiser was deffo at it and a few times he had mucked his uncontested winning hand in such a way that his mates behind him could see what he was throwing, to which they all chuntered or chuckled, I was thinking he playing any high cards and wanted to catch him for a double up. Eventually I got dealt KcJc in the SB, serial raiser in the BB, this was to be my time. Everyone folded to me and I had already decided I would go all in if needed, but just raised about 3k to which he was already sussing out my stack size to put me all in. I called him and flips over A6o and he hits and an A on the flop to hammer the nails in the coffin lid and send me home.

I could have waited a bit longer, but six handed the blinds were spinning quick and I was getting shorter and shorter so am happy with the play above, just not the result. But hey thats poker, and if I was in his position with his stack I would have been taking everyone on too, as I had done to get to the 25k in the first place. The thing that bugs me most was I knew what he was doing but was powerless to do anything about it.

Feeling Grand

Had another great finish in the 4k Gtd on Betfair last night, getting 6th place for £200. At the same time I entered the $5 triple shootout and finished 3rd in that for about $108. A major milestone has now been passed in so far as my Betfair balance now exceeds £1000 for the first time ever. Looking forward to do doing the monthly accounts in a few days as it has been an extremely successful few weeks, not just on Betfair but on some of the other clients that I use.

I have played umpteen STTs over the last week with not much to show for it, plenty of MTTs with nothing to show for it, and I have just become a bit tired of it all. I played a few $10 STTs on partypoker this morning and won a couple, then played a couple of 5 seater STTs on virgin and won 1 and came 2nd in the other. So not a bad day, but come the flashmob game tonight, I trapped a great hand to go into 2nd place in chips, but then just spazzed away the chips like a muppet. I dont quite feel right in the head so will have a couple of days off and see if it helps.

By the way, does anyone read this blog? I have posted some, what I thought were, thought provoking posts, but no comments. Ah well, maybe need an advertising campaign!

Go Easy On A Flashmobber?

Played just the 12 STTs on betfair today and managed a massive 40p profit on them... sheeesh, maybe plus a couple of quid in cakeback. This huge profit didnt quite cover the multis I have entered today (4k gtd, a couple of €50 bonuses. satellite for the 10k) so I am down a bit on the day.

Anyway in the last one tonight a situation arose which has caused me some thought. Me and Snap had played a couple of the same STTs, and in this particular one there were four players left, one big stack and three little ones, me and Snap included, on the SB and BB. Other short stack utg folds, as does the big stack. I've got 1309 and Snap has 640 after paying the blinds. I have A6 off suit. My normal play would be to stuff them in and pressure the shorty, this I do and Snap calls in a flash with 88. Here is the hand in full:

So if I had done as the title of this thread suggests and gone easy on him, I would have had 1309 and Snap would have been on 1540 and the other shorty on 1182 and about to pay 600 on the BB. Even though it was normal play, it bothered me that it was Snap and it looked as if I was trying to bubble him. Hindsight is a great thing, but maybe I should have soft played as the other shorty would have then been under extreme pressure, and me with no blinds to pay for two hands. As it happens, I went out a couple of hands later, the big stack went out in 3rd, Snap 2nd and the other original shorty went on to win.

Personally, when I am playing my run of the mill STTs I would prefer not to play a flashmobber as it affects the way I play, ever so slightly, but nonetheless it does. Happy to hear your views on this subject.

Had a very good weekend on Betfair and Mansion.

Mansion, played 3 x small stakes stt's and cashed in all three.

As for betfair, phew what a scorcher!

Friday night - entered 2 mtts, the 4k and another $10 entry, finished 20th in the 4k for £40 and 5th in the $10 for another £46, nice return to the game after a couple of weeks off.

Saturday, 1 x stt and finished 3rd

Sunday, enter the flashmob game and cam 3rd for £18 and than randomly entered the 10:45pm £2 thunder and managed to luck in with a win for the princely sum of £217.92 !!!

So £300 or so up over the weekend, very happy, a good start to the month.

End of Month, and I'm back

Totally forgot the end of month account, but then again I havent been playing so it didnt really matter. A couple of posts ago I said that I was runnng a bit rough and didnt seem to be playing well. Thats about right too as I had my third only losing month to the tune of £2.29. Not a big loss I know but I did have a decent size mtt cash at the start of the month. That said the bank is still healthy at just under 1.7k.

Just finished 20th in the betfair 4k in my first mtt back after been away for about £30 profit, which is a nice way back in.

Not been running well for a few days, I have now gone about 10 straight stts without a place. Very poor. Its a good job I managed a second in the flashmob game on Sunday night. Its not helped by a really dodgy connection, which doesnt totally disconnect - its just makes the table not respond and then you have missed a hand or have auto folded a good one. I think I will give it a miss until the weekend when its better at home. Then in two weeks I will be moving house and will be back to normal domestic operations hopefully.

Okay, down to business. Its been a good month. I am £255.08 up on the month, from which I bought the most expensive pair of shoes I have every bought at £90. So the overall bank is now up to £1698.32. I have been running very well on betfair inparticular which is where I have played the vast majority of my poker this month.

Next month on betfair they are running a sort of leaderboard thing for stt's so I am going to be continuing to play mostly on there.

Ruru has kindly put me into the pokerchamps asian poker tour final in three weeks time, which is a $150+$10 buy in, but the prize is an $8k package to the live game out in singapore with a total prize pool of £2 million. Game on! Looking forward to it, but it is the night before the removals turn up to take our stuff up to norfolk, great timing.

Played a bit of PL Omaha tonight too, and managed to turn $25 into about $40 and was a nice refreshing change. Played 3 £5 holdem stts, winning 1 and coming nowhere in the other two.

€1000 Bonus plus V-Points

Got a result in the €1000 Bonus on Betfair this afternoon, I think there was 75 runners and only really entered while I watched the footy. Finished 8th for €100 (just under £70) for a €20 (£15ish) buy in. I have started to rebuild my Betfair bank to decent levels after winning and placing well in some £5 and £10 stts. Played a couple of 5 seaters on Sporting Odds and one one of them. Also played in the V-Points freeroll on Virgin tonight and finished 2nd for another 20,000 points/air miles. Total up to about 76k now.

Happy with the way I am playing at the moment.

Plus one more. Now it the plus one more that we need to sort. I was thinking of a few players that have supported the flashmob games in the past and at the moment, plus a few players that would play for us and/or have declared an interst in playing.

So what do you guys think, and any suggestions you may have will be helpful. I wont put up my list yet so as not to influence what anyone else thinks.

Secondly, accommodation. Who is sorted and who isnt? Doob kind of put me in touch with canary boy but I havent had much to do with him so not really sure if I then want to shack up with him and would prefer to share with one of the flashmob crew. What's everyone else doing?

Ups and Downs

Good:

2nd in the $1000 added (from a 1 cent buy) on Mansion on Friday night for $200
1st in the €50 bonus on Betfair (€3 buy in) on Sunday morning for €67

Bad:

Missed the first 40 minutes of the flashmob game then only played 4 hands and went out in 27th out of 37.
Bombed out both of the Betfair Birthday freerolls very early.
Went out the Pokerchamps $10000GTD (bought in by Betfair for $110) in 32nd out of 64 after being in the top 10 for ages.

Well up for the weekend but not happy.

The Lever

The lever took some hammer tonight. With some horrendous beats I somehow managed to get to the last three of the Flashmob tonight, facing up against MC and Sillyfish. Once there though the cards came and with some well applied aggression managed to take it down. Very happy with the way I played three handed.

First Flashmob win for about 3 months after a terrible run which included 3 bubble finishes. Thats my 4th win now, and although I am bound to play as many as most players, the next best is 2 wins, so I have now put a gap between me and the rest.

Okay, had a great day/night out on Tuesday (/Wednesday, lol), visiting betfair towers and having a look at some new software they will be introducing at some point in the future. Not much I can say about the software itself, but the I can tell you what happened on the day and record it for posterity in blogland.

Arrived and the hotel (courtesy of betfair) just after lunch which was a bit early but it gave me the opportunity to get some well earned( and as it turned out, well advised) rest. Betfair had advance me some expenses which more than covered the travel into london and back which was also a bonus. Woke up rested and went down to the bar at about 3pm and soon met up with Mandylou, Duffs and Ewan. A few pints of Guinness later, Mavis, Ruru and then Zelda turned up, shortly followed by Ariston. Shaaboom turned up last as he had just come from the airport and there we all were the "Forum Council"

After a few more pints and a "short" walk to Betfair towers, we did what we went to do for an hour or so, with free nibbles and beers in the demo room of Betfair Poker. Then it was mount up in the Betfair provided taxis for a hectic trip through early evening traffic down to Croydon to visit a new poker room called Big Slick. Its a great club and I was thoroughly impressed with the whole evening there. We all registered for a Â£20 rebuy and then got stuck into the free bar (courtesy of Betfair), so had shed loads more Guinness. My table in the rebuy consisted of 3 x unknown, Ruru, Mavis, Ariston and Mandylou! Ariston decided he was going to be all in blindevery handd until he lost a hand from which point he "would play properly". He managed to bust Ruru a couple of time and Mavis the same. Eventually after he built a might stack of about 18k (started at 1500), he lost a hand and settled down. I then managed to doubled up against him and went on to build a stack of about 7k and the end of the rebuy period, after an add on.Eventually gott down to the last 9 buy was fairly short stacked so when a pair of 6s came along I stuck them in and got called by KQ who spiked a K on the flop. Out in 8th of about 24 for nothing. Mandylou bubbled which left on Duffs in the money and I think he came 4th.

I didnt bother play cash as 1.Its not my game and 2.I was not wanting to get into pots of about Â£70 to Â£140 on a regular basis. Sat between Ruru and Shaaboom, who obviously get on well but seemed to be having a few problems on the night, funny to watch though as they were like a pair of unruly kids in class. Mavis and Ewan were also playing on the same table and they were good to watch as both seem to be great cash players.

Eventually we left the club about 5 and got back to the hotel via Betfair funded mpvs, getting into the hotel for about 6. Got a couple of hours kip before catching the train home, getting in about 10am, very very very tired.

Great day for me, and great to meet a few other forum members who were all terrific people - all way above my level of poker - which was never and issue for them on the day. Very enjoyable and thanks betfair, we should do it again sometime!

Betfair Night Out/Month End

Its been a week or so since I last blogged so I thought I would put a quick post up as an update.

Firstly, the flashmob didnt get up and running tonight as we only had 9 players at the cut off time so it got cancelled,big shame, hope they keep going, and there were a few of the regulars missing. We had an impromptu flashmob game instead, old stylee, and got 9 out of 10 players in the game. I think I ended up about 5th or 6th after trying to push snap of a pot with 7 3 off. Anybody else I would not have been involved, and vice versa, anyone else snap may well have folded. Lesson learned. So if you are reading snap, I promise never try to nick your chips again okay? ;o)

Got a night out on Tuesday as part of the betfair forum council, got an email out of the blue from ruru at betfair asking if I would be interested in testing their upcoming new software. Looking forward to it a lot and to meeting the other 9 betfairers who are going. Some I have met before and some I have never heard of but they are all v good players, so I am not sure why I am going! I have to sign a non-disclosure agreement, so cant tell you how I get on with the testing but will report in on how the day went when I get back.

Monthly accounts are done and I am Â£123.44 up for the month putting me up to just over Â£1300 in the bank to play with. Good to get back to winning month.
